Tom "20mm" Hayden reviews the long awaited, much anticipated title SimHQ has previewed at E3 for the past few years. One question -- what the hell happened?

lol, funny review, still sounds like a contender though.... for worst sim of all time, makes Luftwaffe Commander look like a masterpiece.

Hey 20mm, did you ever hit escape to pause them game and come back and find your engine off? That's a real knee-slapper there too.

Actually, no. I learned early to avoid hitting esc. It would freeze the game and the only escape was to go to desktop and kill the game.

Mag,
Sorry to hear you couldn't get it installed...no, strike that. Just as well.

20mm this review misses a major area: How modable is it?

I am still trying to break the mission format for KA-52:TA (as it didn't come with a mission editor). But that hasn't stopped me from trying (or for that matter rebuilding several other areas.

Another criticism which could be mad of WWOV is that it lacks scout helicopters and insertions (which are more fun for some of us than a pure combat run). Anyway, I lost interest in WWOV when they indicated that they weren't going to consider modelling Afganistan (A hind with two door guns and 10x100kg bombs anyone...)?

Thanks for the review!

Too bad you couldn't get an interview with the developers or publishers, asking them why they would release such a POS. Such a shame since we need a helicopter sim. Thanks for the review and the heads-up.

Thanks all the comments.

Avimimus,
I'm not really qualified to talk about how moddable a sim is or is not. I see what others have posted about it, but even there I'm not sure there any consensus. And we join your disappointment about WOV becoming a one helo sim, something we found out about at E3 last year.

Yeah..a good Vietnam War helo sim would be awesome. I mean..it isn't hard to think of the possibilities for how great it could be (just read "Chickenhawk")...

Hot and cold LZs...
Sling loaded supply missions..
Dust off missions..
Gunship missions..
Recon missions..
Convoy escort..

So many more possibilities...<sigh>

Nice job on the review...it sucks when something doesn't live up to expectations..or at least register on the expectations meter... \:\(

Since the flaws and game features are now disclosed, what are the devs/pubs saying about it?
Seems like this one is going to be one that they say jack squat about, so they get the impluse buyers money.

+G,
I don't know, I haven't heard them say anything. I know some of our members have tried to contact G5, without response. I would love to hear them acknowledge the problems and say that they're working on a major patch.

I'm not holding my breath btw.

Looks an unfortunately terrible sim, but it was a hugely amusing review. Congratulations on giving us such entertainment out of the CD! Most entertaining review I have read in ages.

Great Review There 20mm! I have never laughed at a review more than that one! Remember to place it on the list for the "Worst Sim of the Year" for next January's awards banquet! \:\)

I was even thinking of getting this POS, now I will not touch it with a 20 foot pole!

Bummer! I was looking forward to this title.
Makes me wonder whats going on at 1C. First Theater of War is pretty bad, and now this one.
Makes me worry about Storm of War: The Battle of Britain a bit.
