Cool. Downloading to my laptop at work at about 1.5 MB/sec. Not that I can do anything with it yet. ;\)

Hmmm, so as far as I can see right now they are using one patch for all versions (like 1.1). I hope that's the case.

Well, the patch is on my USB drive which I'm wearing around my neck. I am wearing a patch. He is not heavy, he is my patch.

So it's confirmed, the resolution issue is fixed? Will it do 1920x1200?

I'd look at SubSim forums. People are starting to report about various resolutions working great. I'm stuck at work. \:\(

Well it looks as if the developers listened to the community and fixed this fine game. It took almost a month after the release, but that is not bad. The game looks better than it did before even, and it was good then too. ;\) I would honestly say if you had reservations about getting the game before, well NOW is the time to get it.

Enjoy.....I am......

I'm just waiting to hear from the modders to find out which mods are compatible with 1.2, which ones need updating, and which ones are no longer needed because of patch fixes. The main ones that concern me are 1) the radar mod that fixes the lost contacts when travelling south, and 2) the realistic battery life mod.

Well I guess you can't ask for everything to be fixed properly. I have made a real big deal concerning the US star being upside down on the "so-called" British Lancaster US Heavy Bomber in the game and was amazed to see that they fixed the ones that I complained about as seen below from a previous screenshot that I made:

But now after I installed the 1.2 patch there is now another problem. The ones on the fuselage has been corrected, I was happy to see that, however, NOW the ones on the wings are upside down.

The US Stars on the earlier versions 1.0 and 1.1, they BOTH were correctly mounted. It is just that whoever corrected the ones on the fuselage, then reversed the ones on the wings, I guess to match. I have no Idea. But again, you cannot ask for everything.

I'm also waiting on a few mods, the main one for me is Ducimus's flavored to taste which includes a heck of a lot of the smaller mods including the battery life and radar fixes along with allowing all the torpedo tubes to be opened before firing!! I'm not going to mess with it much till his mod for 1.2 is released, as much as 1.2 fixes it's still lacking a lot without the mods installed. With mods installed and the 1.2 patch I think this game is near perfect!

8800GTX

I'm Ark over at Subsim as well.

1600x1200 8xFSAA and 16xAF. The funny part is my performance has actually improved (at least I think it has, could be a placebo effect though), and it was fantastic before. Smooth as glass before and after the patch....only difference is now there's crazy FSAA and AF. lol \:\)

So far, I am definately impressed.

Now that the patch is out I went and bought my copy of SH4 tonight. Downloaded the patch even before I had the game in my hands. Only played part of one of the historical missions and all looks good to me so far. New crew management is better too.

Blazin,
yeah if your using one of those compilation mods it's best to wait for an update. I've been going with individual mods myself. I took a chance with certain updates like the realistic crush depth and realistic battery life mods by comparing the edited file to that list I posted showing the files affected by 1.2 (originally from Seeadler). In fact, if that list is accurate, Slower Clouds, Crush Depth, Batter Life, and Contact Range (to decrease the size of the message log) should be unaffected.

The only update I waited on is a new tweak file from Mraah that allows me to fix the issue where radar contacts are lost if you're travelling south (the file in question is actually altered by 1.2). Mraah says it's still a work in progress, so I'll have to watch for updates.

Ark, I noticed you over at SubSim. Interestingly, it seems like forcing some FSAA and AA on my card didn't negatively affect smoothness for me at all. I only added 2x FSAA and 2xAA to start with but was surprised when I started a new patrol out of Pearl Harbor (in the harbor) and could pan as smoothly as before. I haven't experimented with higher settings yet and am still on 1024x768 so I will try ramping it up later. On the other hand, if I get any slow down at higher settings it doesn't matter because it looks good now.

1600x1200 is the highest resolution I've seen anyone mention here or at subsim...is 1600x1200 the max allowable res in version 1.2? Still on the fence about SH4 because of the res issue. I downloaded the patch last night though, so it looks like I'm leaning towards getting it...just want to be sure it will play at my monitor's native res before I shell out $50 for it. Otherwise I'll probably wait for the price to drop...it's not like I don't already have too many games to play.

There's a few guys at Subsim running it at 1920x1200 (their native res.) on their monitors.

It's not mentioned in the fix list, but does the stopwatch/TDC speed work now?

It's quite sad that your game purchases are determined by if they support your LCD's native res. Your game choices must be severely limited and some newer games will run at a poor frame rate at 1920x1200 res. That's why I still use a 22" CRT. Any game is always at its sharpest no matter what res I set it to. They'll have to pry my CRT from my cold dead hands.

As mentioned above, I've got more games than I have time to play. Resolution is not a limiting factor for every game, it's just nice to be able to play at 1920x1200. The problem with ver1.0 and ver1.1 SH4 is that the 3D display was locked at 1024x768 which looks just terrible when it's stretched to 1920x1200. Also, bumping a 24" widescreen down to 1024x768 looks really bad too...native res is what's going to look best on an LCD. At 1920x1200 I don't have any frame rate problems either. My new build has basically shredded everything I've thrown at it this year...even with all the graphic goodness maxed out. X6800 (OC to 3.3GHz), 2 Gb XMS-Pro RAM, 680i mobo, 2x8800GTX's, & X-Fi sound...Plays R6 Vegas at 85fps (1 card at 1920x1200 with res hack), GRAW at 180fps (SLI at 1600x1200), NWN2 at 75fps (one card at 1920x1200), STALKER with FOV hack at 160fps (SLI at 1920x1200) or 85fps (one card at 1920x1200), Oblivion at 95 fps (one card at 1920x1200), etc, etc.

I used to love CRT's too, but my new widescreen LCD is the swizzle. I just didn't want to pay $50 for something that was going to look like crap on my new setup.

I really don't think that you will be disappointed at the Graphics in the Game. And your machine tops mine and I have things topped out and running 1680x1050x32 @ 60 hz and it was sluggish on the 1.0 & 1.1, but now after the 1.2 patch, my machine appears to run better and smoother than before. I have had absolutely NO lockups or Crashes since I put on 1.2.

Enjoy SH4.....I am!.......

Picked up SH4 on the way home from work yesterday. After getting it loaded and patched, I must’ve experienced some lost time because the next thing I knew was that it was way past my bedtime. So here I am at work, dog tired, but anxious to get back home and resume my patrol. The game performs well and looks really beautiful at high resolution; it also provides the familiar absorbing game play of past SH titles. I’m very pleased with SH4 so far, and I foresee spending many hours with it. I’m glad the developers got this thing fixed so quickly, otherwise I wouldn’t have purchased it until it was in the bargain bin. Thank you all for your feedback.

Ahoy, and good hunting!!

Eeegads ya, that thing must weigh in over 80 pounds and suck 150watts of electricity to run! I have a 22" LCD and I won't go back to CRT. I occasionally have to use a CRT time to time and they strain my eyes too much compared to an LCD. The difference is huge once you've had a good panel for a while. The lcds are so bright too, and they're not going to bend your table from weight over time or cost ya $200 a year in power use. I will admit though I miss the heat given off my CRT in the winter, but when the high temps in July hit I wont miss CRTs one bit!

Now you need to load some of the very fine community mods - sere the last post - by me - on the first sticky topic in this forum.

Mods are definitely in my future, probably be downloading some tonight. Good to see that there's already a list of 1.2 compatible mods.
