I have had SDOE since 2000, and have had it on and off my systems a dozen times. Basically, I found the original too sterile, and I detested the flight models of the earlier updates (circa 2003-2004). It just seemed to lack immersion for me. I have never tried any of the WWI mods, but the screenshots look great.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is which version of the sim would you say is most successful at achieving its aim? Thanks.

Rick

There is no way to answer that.. All I can suggest is try all aspects!

I can tell you, there will be a Patch for FS-WWI Plane Pack 4 very soon. So just download the Online standard listed at the main page on the site in my signature if you do decide to try FS-WWI. If you do go one way or the other, please keep them seperate. It works best that way.

Somehow I knew that's the answer I'd get.

I'll try ;\)

OK with SDOE ww1, while more limited (so far) in scope, generally it has better quality control across the board. While there a few 'older' planes that need a little attention, most of the planes and other add-ons are up to the same level of polish. (don't forget to check out the new hi-res Albert terrain, plug, plug ;\) )

With SDOE ww2, way more stuff to fly, drive and do but while many items have pretty good polish to them there quite few other that, while they are playable, they definetly need some work to finish them and/or get them up to date.
If you are looking for immersion, then you may want to try my Sweet La Rhonda P-51C Campaign I did for ww2. Immersion was the #1 goal for that campaign.
And there are new hi-res terrains for ww2, like Berlin ;\) (more shameless plugging!)

In a way tho, it also depends on what you are bigger fan of too

What the hell, let's have some screenies!

does that help?

VERY nice! I must say that your campaign screenshots seems to have the prettiest terrain I have seen in this sim to date.

As for a preference, I traditionally have been a WWII fan. The last WWI sim I flew extensively was a 386 era sim. I think it was the original Red Baron, but I could be wrong. It was released by either Microprose or Dynamix. I loved that old sim.

Every time i come back to FSWW1 it never fails to astonish me in how lavish it looks. All the aircraft and cockpits have been created so well it is just amazing. Not to mention all the ground vehicles, objects and terrains. I was trying to bomb Ervillers areodrome in the albert terrain the other day and my poor old roland got badly shredded and blackened by british archi and to round it off, there was what looked like blood smeared all round the outside of mmy cockpit and my obsever's cockpit. Wow! Just sheer brilliance!!

Wow thanks MarkJhnstn! FS-WWI is looking pretty dated by today's standards, but that indeed doesn't mean she's still fun to fly and fight. \:\)
