both using win7/64.

surprisingly, it works with no problem in no.1 system.
with no.2 I get a lot of slow down and hangs and ctd,
then I use dxtweaker ver. 1k, it seems to solve the slow down and ctd,
but now the movie is garbled.

is this because of nvidia driver?
is there a cure for garbled movies?
please advise.

Nvidia driver versions affect AA slowdown - check here for info: Nvidia Driver Versions AA Slowdown

Latest driver version seems to work with no AA slowdown.

thanks for the reply, mdwa.

currently I am using 359.06 and I have massive AA slowdown without dxtweaker.

Have you tried 368.81 ?
I read from bms forum that 372.70 & 373.06 are no good for bms,
so I am going to try 368.81 first.

after further testing,
it seems there is no 'perfect' way to play fa18 with my current system.

with 368.81 and win98 compatibility option,
there is no AA slowdown without dxtweaker, but the frame rate is around 35fps with gtx970,
and the game seems to crash more often randomly.
also with win98 compatibility option, some of the keyboard commands refuse to work with,
so far I find these:
f9 (view weapon) and ctrl-b (call the ball).
both don't work.

with dxtweaker, I need to play with no compatibility option to make the game more stable.
It seems this way is the most stable way to play and the fps is doubled to around 75fps.
However, dxtweaker causes crabbing and sliding acccording to mdwa, so I have to test it further.
Also with this setting, the voiceocer on the tutorial does not work, so playing the tutorial is harder since you have to read those very tiny text.

if someone has other result and experiences with the setting,
please share.

Hi tirta,

Sorry to hear your problems, but I wouldn't give up - there must be some way of getting it all to work since it works fine on others' systems...

I could suggest maybe you uninstall everything, clear everything F18 related from registry etc, and start from scratch, check here:

http://vfa-41.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3856

Hope you get it all working...

yes I have done all that:

uninstall everything, clear everything F18 related from registry with ccleaner.

before I install janes fa18, however the problems remain.
so I do not know what else should I try.

Most of the links are dead.

Is there any way to run the game?
I have set up a virtual XP and even on that does not work.
I was able to install but it does not launch.

The only msg. what I got

""could not find display driver list..."

Guys I think I've figured out how to fly F-18 without AA slowdown on a fairly recent Win10 hardware. I'm using latest version of DxWnd along with my config file. All I can say is that if you limit your resolution to 1028x768 you wont experience any AA slowdown. Any increase from that resolution induces the frame rate drop the moment you go into AA.

Core i7 10700KF, MSI Z490 MEG UNIFY, 32GB DDR4 RAM, RTX 2080 Super 8GB, 1 TB SAMSUNG NVMe x 1, 4TB Seagate SATA3 x 2, CORSAIR RM850x PSU, Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog, Track IR 4 and Oculus Rift S.

The best result I've had is by using the following:

https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=69905

Because the poster provides support for other games the installation described is somewhat convoluted. If you just want to run JF18, install it as usual and add the no-cd j18.exe. Then copy the following files from the download (in above link) into your main JF18 directory:

dgVoodoo.conf
D3DImm.dll
DDraw.dll

(as I posted here: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?p=914147#p914147)

This has worked for me on several W10 PC's with nvidia (and intel) graphics. There are minor issues: on some, but not all, of my PCs instant action crashes, the mouse cursor is slight off in-game, but other than that I think it's as close to the original experience as it's possible to get on a modern PC. It also works with TSH and higher resolutions.

Using dxtweaker will get higher frame rates, but I've always found that I get graphical anomalies, and gameplay bugs. IMHO the mod above provides a better experience.
