The latest addition to the shelf, Academy's 1/48 109 Dora, as flown by Olympic Gold Pentathlete Gotthardt Handrick in the Spanish Civil War...

Excellent Job! I especially like the exhaust soot. Did you dry brush that?

2fish, it's ground-up chalk pastels, brushed on. It's not as dark as I would have liked, the finish prevented a lot of it adhering to the surface, so I might give it another go after a matt coat. The camera flash didn't help much either - the tyres are actually matt but it made them look very shiny indeed!

Thanks for all the comments folks, it was fun to try something a little more unusual.

Just noticed the Olympic badge on the spinner !
Second look and Im quite taken with this model mate. apart form the gloss appearance of the undercarriage which you reckon is down to the flash. It looks about right. Especially the markings on the fuselage Top hat etc they just look integral to the model. I like it I like it a Lot !

The decals were superb.

A kind modeller at Finescale told me to dump the poor Academy ones and posted over his spares from a Cutting Edge decal set. They are probably the best I've used, and are noted as being compatible with Microscale Set/Sol solutions.

As for the spinner, on one side is the Olympic rings with a laurel wreath and "1936", and on the other the rings with "1940?". There's an interesting idea floating around that the plane in photo references was a belated publicity stunt, and that Handrick flew a 109B like the rest of his Gruppe at the time.

Nice plane, and a dapper cockpit there \:\) I like your weathering, it breaks up the monotony of the all-green finish.

In all my years I've never seen the like. It has to be more than a hundred sea miles and he brings us up on his tail. That's seamanship, Mr. Pullings. My God, that's seamanship!
