The screens look great, cant wait to throw BS on my HDD For whatever reason, whoever took the shot didn't load the Cobra. In the LOBS, the AH-1W can be loaded with TOW, Hellfire and rockets with the ability to create mixed loads. The Cobra shots were included to show one of several new and upgraded AI vehicles to be included in LOBS. To read anything more into it is just silly and disappointing. -Matt -Matt

Never said I WAS reading anything into it, just stated that I'd like to fly the Cobra. Never said that it should be flyable in LOBS, Fun as it would be, the model looks great. Just saying that I havent seen any games in a while that allowed this. Its always the Apache, or the like, never the simple yet Ruged Cobra.

Navy, I was not referring to you; I was referring to another poster's comments.

Don't down the terrain just yet. I thought that it wasn't suitable for low level slow flight, too.
I think I can say, without compromising the NDA, that I now think that I was quite wrong about that.

Swampthing - what you have to remember is that the main target audience for Black Shark is Russians Simmers and they will prefer the Ka-50 in a Moscow minute.

Oh i know, i'm constantly reminded that this is a russian sim every time i force myself to play it. It's their choice i guess for wanting to sell less than 10,000 copies rather than actually having a marketable product in the western world. Yeah yeah i know dead horse argument, but it doesn't change the fact that it still pulls my chain everytime i see them post a nice picture of a cobra or apache and i have to wallow in the fact that i can't fly it and have to fly some russian turd instead. It's funny because in alot of ways this "helo sim" will be a huge step backwards. LB2 had better terrain and had a 2 seat option. apache/havoc had better terrain and cities and docks. Even the SAR series had better terrain. I'm guessing those that are saying the terrain is ok are primarly jet or ww2 fighter plane pilots and don't fly many helo sims. The terrain there is flat, ok, so your saying there are NO gullies or even small hills you can fly behind in a helo that it's all pure flat and then just straight up to huge polygon triangle mountains? Some of my favorite times were in EECH and longbow, hiding behind hillcrests or treelines and blasting some tanks or whatever. Doesn't look to be a possibility in this game if they aren't updating the terrain at all. And yes, one of the first things that was said when this was announced, right after everyone moaned about it being the ka50 and not an apache was that the terrain sucked for helo's. Quite a few people at the time said they were updating it, if you go back far enough and read threads you'll see this.

Do you even own Lock On? I loved LB2 and can't comment on A-H or SAR but does this terrain look flat and featureless? ...

It's really disconcerting to see this far into development that it's STILL the same, crappy, basic, not good for helo's terrain.
I gotta say it also really sucks to see them doing screenshots of the cobra, basically rubbing it in our face that it isn't flyable when i think a large majority of the flight simming community would take the cobra in a new york minute over the black shark.
I will say for sure that if the terrain isn't upgraded, that's a no sell point immediately. Lock on's terrain just is NOT suited for helo missions and terrain masking flight. You really don't have lockon then, the terrain is more than good enough for a helo sim. As for the rubbing it in your face! Whats up with that?, my understanding is that ED is moving forward and expanding their capabilities to include helo sims as well as jets. And with fully modeled avionics etc. So maybe later on we might see a western helicopter such as an Apache.[likely in their next project] Its better that they continue the way they are going so that such flyables may one day be possible.

Another thing to remember--AFAIK, LOMAC 1.2 will have the largest map of any helo sim ever. Go back as far as you want, they all took place in a smaller flyable area. That means naturally it's easier to be more detailed. Fly an Su-27 in EECH or LB2 and you'll run out of map nearly as fast as you do in BF2!!
So while the overall level may not seem VASTLY improved over previous titles, the fact that you'll be able to fly a helo in a straight line and run low on fuel before running out of map is a definite step forward.
Anyway, I'm getting it despite its shortcomings since I find the positives outweigh the negatives.
