Hi all,
This thread is intended tp porovide 'constructive advise' to both EAW newbies and veterans alike on how to get the best out of EAW when flying on-line.

Please do not enter into prolonged or lengthy discussions on which methods are best etc. Just post the inbest information we have and how it's done.

I will monitor this one regularly.

There are more than the following places to meet online for online play of EAW. However, the most popular are as follows:

The EAW Launchpad
http://groups.msn.com/THEEAWLAUNCHPAD/_Home
The above will lead you to a chat room often called 'Chatz'. You can post your time there and people will often check there to start a game.

Communication is often done by TeamSpeak. The post popular place is Sydbods.
Sydbod
Server Address: sydbod.hopto.org
Password: there is none
Special note: Sydbod’s server is used by some players because it can help with those on narrow bandwidth(old fashion telephone lines). It also allows you to post text messages.

I have had a favourable response to a PM that I sent to the SimHQ boss regarding adding the same "permissions" that we have (and need) at Sydbod's to the SimHQ server. I await further news.

Most of us are now using the SimHQ Team Speak server.
It looks like you may have missed the message that gets displayed on my server nowdays.

EAW TS is at 208.67.248.204:8767 pass=SimHQ_talk

The SimHQ server that all of us are now using is set up with the following

Label: "SimHQnet"
Server Address:"208.67.248.204:8767"
Nickname:Whatever_you_want_to_call_yourself
Anonymous: is the only selection box selected
Server Password= "SimHQ_talk" <---it is case sensitive*

My server is now only used as a backup should the SimHQ one be having problems.

Regards sydbod

Here is an idea: I have been reading online, so why havn't I been flying online? If there is a totally basic web page on HOW TO get flying online I havn't found it yet. I have been looking at countless web pages, hundreds of posts among the THOUSANDS of posts on this forum and still have not flown online. It is a bit overwhelming! \:\) Yes, I managed to bookmark tally ho "starting gate" but have not read that yet.

In Red Baron 3D all I do is go to a multiplayer menu and BAM! I'm in the arena. I read on one page out there for EAW or OAW I guess its called here, we must have 1.2version with certain plane mods [or not] or risk crashing a server. Don't quote me as to that last example, but I don't want to log on and crash the mission of the day without being shot down first.

Do I need to have an OAW folder , or is this just for personal mods?

Do I need to go through some sort of membership to any site as a portal to get flying online [read something last night that I think started with a K, to sign up for something?

I'd like to see a starting page like that of Max [the one with lt. brown background] with simple instructions. That site is great. It simply lays out how to put in mods and get XP going.

enough bandwidth for me for now!

Andy

passing on some good stuff to help newbies:
Hi,

with an ATI card you absolutely don’t need Win98!
If it will run for you, EAW runs much better under XP.
The only reason I know, why it shouldn’t, is a Nvidea graphic driver bug, that cause a error on SOME NVidea cards.

If you have a EAW CD, don’t use the ‘install.exe’, EAW does not need any registry entries, you simply need to copy all files from the CD to the wanted folder on your PC. Then run the 1.2E patch etc.

I recommend making a backup copy of a clean EAW folder.

With modern ATI cards Zackenstak's Glide Wrapper is a "must have".
In 3d, ATI cards don’t show the horizon fog, but it works perfect in glide! Anyway, EAW looks much better in glide, and you can run 800x600 in game resolution, and then the glidewrapper converts this to 1600x1200. As opposed to the "in game 1600x1200", the FPS stays higher, the text stays readable and the planes identifiable.

Greetings,

Knegel

And this is good too! But don't forget to use the EAW banner at top of this EAW Forum.

From BVM
Hello,

This site is temporary for three reasons.

1. It is a free Yahoo site and now that you all know its here it will quickly be viewed so many times that it will exceed its bandwidth.

2. Maybe there will be so much negative feedback generated it will be removed (by popular demand, err uh, even chainsaws at my door etc).

3. We don't need another EAW webpage, you be the judge.

Then again maybe there is the slight possibility that it was a good idea and that it should be hosted somewhere, by someone who can handle unlimted viewings.

So line up chappies and chaptresses, for tickets might be sold out for this show and you'll have to be keep checking back to see if you can get in the door!

Enjoy! (or throw yer rotten tomatoes!)
