I thought "T" or "Y" toggled the closest enemy?

Or used to...or something

I usually fly Easy Mode and I seem to be at a loss, even using the keyboard map, to make anything "lock"

More frustrating is all the online campaigns are set to full realism...so Im even more lost there.

Is my keyboard layout pooched?

I need a few tips!

In "simplified" mode, hit the "page down" key to radar lock the next target. See page 20 in the abbreviated game booklet, "Basic Operations Manual."

I have no idea. I have never played F4 in easy mode.

It is a lot more rewarding in realistic avionics, and frankly, much more logical.

You should learn on realistic, because re-learning after you are used to Easy Mode and switching to realistic, will be a long hard road.

I think this is true, Skater, which is why I'm working on realistic mode every day. But if the sim loses its "fun," it loses me as the player. So I sprinkle in some simplified mode to remind me that F4:AF is actually a form of enjoyment, not a final in structural engineering.

I understand that Franx, but I'm telling you, in Realistic, the commands structure and the performance of the avionics is much more logical and cascading than it is in simplified or easy.

I think realistic is easier to learn (much harder to master) than easy is. And after you learn easy, realistic becomes a lot harder to learn.

BTW, Happy New Year!

Oh I agree about learning in Realism Mode at some point.

But again, I fly maybe twice a week. Real life gets in the way \:\)

I joined someone's furball game last night. Oh I got mauled so bad. The only thing I hurt was the hillside \:\)

Lol PaulB I feel your pain. I've done sims for 8 yrs now, starting with jane's usaf, to lockon, now falcon. But in all those I suck in Dogfights. Campaigns and TE's are way more fun . .......don't wanna start a flame war but dogfights IMO are nothing more than Chest-thumping . \:D

Falcon is a hard core sim IMHO, just as is LoMac.
Basically its a flying radar with weapons. To not get deep into the avionics and weapons system is to miss over 1/2 of what its about.

Dogfighting requires ALOT of practice and study to be on top of your game, and thats where much time needs to be available. Cooperative flying is much more to the weekend warrior's time crunch.

I would agree with both SKATER and the weekend warrior and say stick with realistic and fly a couple of times a week with an online squadron that has training and IPs available to help with the steep learning curve.

Theres always second tier sims like Longbow2, IL2, First Eagles and Project1 for lower cockpit cranium meltdowns.

And for those totally caveman level times, theres always Americas Army and other shooters which have their place and are alot of fun.

AV8R, I had my first day today where I began to get an inkling of how realistic-mode avionics works. It just started to start to click -- sort of. Translation: I actually shot some bandits down, instead of eating all the warheads myself.

And it was a rush.
