I have a “Sharkoon MAJESTIC 5.1 USB HEADSET” I’m very satisfied with it. It’s big, but shuts out almost all external sound, so I like it better than my previous sound playback solution. Actually I stopped using my other soundcard (Adigy2-ZS) for gaming.
I don’t know the price, because it was given to me as a present.

I use a $30 plantronics that covers your ear that I think is fine. Is line-in plug and its not fancy but its OK.
Tell us more about what your effect your trying to get. Are you looking for high end.
I also believe there might be a post further down about ear buds and ear covers.

Plantronics DSP-500...concurr.
Now if want a good one with positional sound, look at Turtle Beach.

A cheap USB headset is the way to go, that way you can hear other people without it getting in game sounds as well.(use external speakers for ingame sounds)

I had some trouble with USB based sound, I'm using a Plantronics DSP-500 too. Use onboard sound for Teamspeak and Shoot, Sim sounds come through Logitech 5.1. Only way to go IMO.

Anyone know of a comfortable brand, preferably USB? These things I had, they LOOKED padded, but it was really just vinyl over plastic. They were too small for my ears, too (and I don't have satellite dishes for ears). On top of that, they applied so much pressure, my ears were numb and I had a mild headache after 10 minutes. Edit: Here they are - Golly, ouch!

BTW advise staying away from usb as it just puts more load on your CPU...not good if you're a serious gamer.

Great info, guys! I like the idea of seperating the comms from the rest of the sim, like Gatorman does, but his system looks like it can handle the extra load Hammer mentions. I've got a modest 3GHz machine, so I might forget USB. I'd hate to have stutter everytime someone says something.
