Very cool indeed! How much would it cost me to do what you've done for the Master Pilots and keyboard tray?

The entire chair from start to finish has been a work in progress with new things added as I find them. Having said that I think I have reached the limit of what I can hange on a single chair. The total cost of everything including the chair, electronics, xkeys, masterpilots, wireless keyboard, cougers, etc., is probably $700.00. The parts that I made from wood to attach things were very cheap and simple to make (I have no wood working skills). The cost for those items wood, bolts, hinges, etc., I would estimate cost maybe $100.00 or less. The most expensive item was the angled aluminium which was about $13.00. It was easy to do and works well. You need only basic tools such as a saw and drill. I would encourage you or anyone else to do it as an alternative to a full cockpit or more expensive commercial chairs. Let me know if I can help.

I used to have that exact chair. I wish I could find a place here that sells them, as it was by far my fave out of the last half dozen that I've owned.

I also have a projection system. My biggest problem was the track IR4 install. I mounted it behind me and it works great but in only dot mode.

I see that you have your mounted above your keyboard.

Do you have the vector expansion?

Do you find that you are too close for acurate use?

What do you use for the reflector? In my set-up my head is always tilted up looking at the projected image.

Thanks, look forward to you input.

I use a TIR3,no vector expansion. I must admit I do not use it very much, not because it does not work but because I have not taken the time to just get used to it. When I first started with it I did make a profile that made it much more accurate and my assumption is that most of the problems with position and reaction can be overcome by tweaking the response curves. I use one of the square reflectores placed on the front of my headset microphone, the distance seems to be fine.

Well I got my MasterPilot and Programmer! The MasterPilot seems to be working just fine after I went out and bought a PS/2 to USB converter.. But the Programmer does give me the Checksum error in WinXP Pro and in SafeMode. I'm going to see if I can get my old 486DX2 out of the closet and get this sucker reprogrammed. \:D

I spent a bunch of time trying to solve the MP programming problem. Here are a few of the results I got…

1-The 66-100-133 MHz bus did not seem cause a problem with the MP Programmer, BUT I never tried it on a machine with more than 133 MHz.

2. The programmer would ONLY work in Win 98 and only when it was booted to ‘Safe’ mode. I NEVER got XP to work with the programmer

3. Every USB conversion cable I tried eventually caused problems.. I would get random lock ups and keyboard failures. I think the USB voltages are a bit much for the ROM in the MP. Some manufactures PS2 to USB models would not even work at all… I ended up connecting my keyboard via USB and the MP by PS2

I set up a dual boot system to program both my MP’s and my Game port CH HOTAS.. It worked but it was a pain…

My final solution was to harvest the MP parts, pull out the ‘guts’ and use the MP case & Buttons with an X-Keys Matrix board USB..

Your Mileage may vary

Good luck

Beercamel-SimHQ, what do you mean by random failures? I've got the keyboard plugged in a USB port on the mobo and then the MP going to a PS/2 - USB converter and then plugged into another USB port on the mobo.

If I do connect my MP to the PS/2 connector it works, but as soon as I press a key the game selector readout reads 0. Any ideas about that? That's why I got the converter and all seems to be working so far.

I've found some answers to the MP Programmer problem that I'm going to try 2nite. One involves running many CPU tasks in the background. I'll let ya know!

I would get conflicts between the regular keyboard and the MP. And the MP would occasionally ‘lock’ by having nothing but dashed lines in the Game select window. I would also get strings of key signals that appear like several keys were being held down at once. It would require a re-boot to get it working again.

It’s been a while since I played with MPs but I believe it is because you don’t have anything programmed…you have to select a game, either one of the pre-programmed ones (Useless) or your programmed cartridge.

I don’t think it will work. I attempted to solve this over a pretty long period and the ONLY solution was to program it in Windows 98 ‘Safe’ mode.. the BUS speed (i.e. more than 66 MHz) HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT!!! It was windows XP. When I booted into WIN 98 SAFE the MP programmer worked fine at 133 MHz bus speed. THIS WAS THE ONLY WAY I FOUND TO PROGRAM THE CARTRIDGE! The reason I eventually decided to retire the stock MPs was the VERY LIMITED memory capability on the ROM. It realistically allows just 2 complex games per cartridge. I modified the MP to use the X-Keys matrix board and it works great, and is Win XP compatible and USB!

Good luck with this...

I use a y-mouse adapter from x-keys. Both ps2 connectors from the masterpilots attach to it and it plugs into the usb port on my computer. Works great, no conflicts. web page
