I just found Longbow Anthology and installed both Longbow 1 and 2. I have read recluse's reviews on the Janes F-18 forum and thought i'd check out a helo sim. I have installed both Longobow 1 and 2 and patched them. Is there anything nexct I should do before I start learning this game? Pardon any stupid question as i'm a newbie lol.

Hi Paul - have you considered using a Glide wrapper for LB2? A number of us have had pretty good luck with the dgVoodoo 1.4+ wrapper. It makes the game look almost modern, and you can run at very high resolutions. Instructions are in various threads in this forum, including: http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=134;t=000128 Scroll down - I think the last screen showing wrapper settings works pretty well. This is a great site that summarizes - and links to - much of what is needed to make sure LB2 runs well: http://www.speichts.com/games/lb2/index.htm Should have links for patches and wrappers. Either way, I'd just make sure it runs, and then hop into the excellent training flights. Hope you like it!

A bunch of us fly online too, so you want to read upon the multiplayer setup folks are using to get it to work.

Cool! Someone else who's learning LB2 from scratch. I'm no longer the new guy hehe Paul, make sure you get the glidewrapper working. It makes a huge difference in the game's graphics. A couple of things that you might want to know is that there's a weird trigger lag when you want to fire your cannon. It seems that for a bunch of us, it takes multiple presses of the trigger before it'll fire. The virtual cockpit (F4) can only be used during a mission so you won't be able to use it during any of the training flights.

LB2 has a head 2 head mode, but its pretty lame. Yawn.
IL2 and Falcon4 and LockOn is where the dogfighting is to be had.

LB2 also has a RED vs. BLUE mode available in NTC Campaign mode where some humans can fly RED and some BLUE. I have never tried it..never knew anyone who did...but it sounds interesting. From what I recall, the RED team flies Hokums and Havocs Hinds and Hips.. (outside view) but the avionics and such are the same as the LB(NR), LB(R), Kiowa and BH. Interesting strategically...whether you go for your mission goals or go to shoot down the enemy choppers..to keep them from their goals.. or both. It might be an interesting diversion if not a steady diet. Recluse

Also the red Apaches are tan, not olive drab. Could try it some time and get some nice group screenshots. I could use a new desktop wallpaper

Shadow,
Do you recall if they are indeed Tan Apaches or do they have the outward aspect of a Russian chopper? It would make sense that they are still Apaches, Kiowas and Blackhawks but I am not sure.

Thanks RECLUSE,
Never heard of that RvB Camp mode before. I will try it this weekend.
Be nice if that meant we got more than 8 players

In NTC US vs US, all helicopters are the same color, only the ground vehicles are tan on red side. In NTC US vs Russian, the red side helicopters are the same as US equipment, but the external models are Havocs, Hokums, and Hinds.

Hmmmmm I guess with Red v Blue, you all have a DIFFERENT Planner too, right? Or else the ENEMY would see your WP's and all.. Interesting... I will have to try it on my LAN with me playing both roles. I am SURE to win that way!!!
