Quick question really... is .exe editing allowed nowadays, or even better is the source code now available?

Cheers!

If you find you can modify the .exe, I have a couple of requests. ;\)

My first aim is to fix the IHADSS pitch ladder.

My best info (RAF helicopter pilot currently doing transition training from Lynx to WAH64 (still praying for 3am Sunday morning slot in the simulator myself...)) suggests it shouldn't change with head movements, instead only change to reflect a change in pitch of the helicopter itself.

You probably know what I mean here... sit with hover hold on, go into virtual cockpit looking straight ahead, and the pitch ladder reads zero degrees. Now tilt your head up using KP8 key and the pitch ladder increases. This shouldn't happen.

Assuming I can sort this, I'll then aim to keep the pitch ladder in IHADSS view permamently...

Heh! A very very simple fix I would like is the correction of an egregious typo/spelling error/word substitution that renders

INSERTION as INSURRECTION in the Tasking.

This drives me nuts!!!

I wonder, though it if was one of HATCHET's tweaks I applied somewhere along the line as I don't remember being particularly upset early on, and I can't believe it wouldn't have jumped out at me from the very beginning. I am pretty sure that in the ATO portion of MissioneerPlus it is correctly rendered as INSERTION....

I fear that when modding gets out of control, there will be more modding than flying and more different and MP incompatible permutations of the original game, so I am happy to fix the little bugs and leave the sweeping changes to those that enjoy modding for modding's sake.

Recluse

Recluse,
the original missions I have do not use the word insurrection.
You can check the extracted briefings I've got posted on my Longbow web page
Cheers,

I'd never noticed that, but it would definately be incorrect. I was thinking more along the line of an edit to increase the distance where the maximum texture detail from the Ter_h file is applied over the terrain mesh. That would make a huge improvement in the visual quality of this sim.

I wouold love to see a fix for the internal clock of LB2 so you wouldn't have to run slowdwon utilities.

I got my old P3-500 Voodoo 3 box going again just to play LB2 and am having a blast. It runs better there than I ever managed on my P4 2.x rigs.

How do you go about fiddling with *.exe ? HexEditor? String search? Looking for a tables?
What are the "tricks of the trade" here?

Keith,

I probably wasn't clear. I'm not home now or I would post a screen shot. The briefing text is correct, but I am talking about the left hand side of the screen when in the briefing map screen where each flight and task is shown in a column.. (of course it still may be due to something I did on my end). Will post a screenie later on this weekend.

You disassemble the code using, lets say, IDA Pro. Then you dive into assembly code and try to understand... not very simple.

In an nutshell... doing it in this manner is very limiting though (unless you're a complete genius), some things can be changed/tweaked, etc. but for real modifications we really could do with getting the source code - then the sky really would be the limit for mods and improvements.

Hell yeah! I was strickly reffering to reverse engineering/hacking, I thought thats what he meant.
With the code, it could be a whole new sim...
