SNAFU,
thanks for the offer, i'll start in on pages 40-47, if you want to start at page 48. We can check in and see who is able to get stuff done and who can't find the time. If Sharon Stone will let me get some work done....

JRT,
What? Arial?...
12pt?.....
Now you tell me. I've just finished rewriting all the stories by hand in my best calligraphy, but i used a gothic script. Damn! now i've got to start again!

Folks,

C51:

Please.... please won't you find it in your heart to forgive me? If you can possibly do so I promise to tell you where Sharon's "G" spot really is. You know what that is don't you? It's the place where when you touch it she sighs "Gee!". ;\)

Update:
I'm on page 8 of my 13 pages of HWH Cont. and I have most of my other stories formatted now as well. I'll finish it all up tomorrow or Wednesday I'm sure.

I agree with SNAFU, we've had some amazing stories posted. And I'm even more amazed at how many poor stories I've actually gotten away with posting here myself. \:\)

JRT aka "fearless leader":
regarding the job at hand...

any thoughts on scanning for typos?

also, what is the consensus regarding quasi
story-type anecdotal prose, i.e. Olga-esque descriptions?

and should we be naming the files with some indication of cronological order?
How do you plan to deal with muti-part stories that have mutiple authors?

okay, i'll stop asking questions now.

Folks,

I've completed collecting the stories from pages 1-13 of HWH Cont. My mess excepted, there were some interesting even exciting stories. I found 12 individual authors who posted a total of 61 stories. The un-zipped file size is 1.46 MB at this point. Just a tad too large to fit on a standard floppy. Zipped or compressed the entire file is only 279 KB.

Now I wish to determine which of my own archived stories we already have collected so I can brazenly add those we do not. Reasonable objections to the above will be considered.

When you're done kindly send me a list of all the titles you have collected of just my stories. I collected 26 of mine from pg. 1-13. There should be about 130 stories altogether by my own reckoning. The stories certainly might be but the total itself ain't too shabby.

Before we send these off to OSRAM, make a CD or whatever SNAFU wants to do with them I want to do a bit of editing on a couple of my stories as well.

Thanks for the willing help.

Chaps,

I have been flattened by a rather nasty bug for the past week or so.

Knew what you were up to but unable to co-operate while wrestling with various 'remedies'; Kleenex tissues, toilet rolls and the odd bottle of rum. Thought I had thrown it off and then had a relapse. What a bloody awful week. \:\(

C51,

You have made a most valid observation. I think we should dump the 'Olga-esque' stories. They are not really of the spirit for which this long thread was intended. They may be too much for those of tender disposition. ;\) Just choose the BoB air battle stuff in preference for BDG/CD content. That's my view anyway.

There will be another Olga story shortly which I have concocted while abed.

Folks,

Dux lives! \:\) I had that bug too several weeks ago and now it has crossed the Atlantic.

Fellows I tend to disagree regarding Olga. IMHO she has become an integral part of this wonderful thread. As far as I am concerned there is nothing obscene or lewd about those wonderful stories. 99.99% of the folks interested in HWH are adults. To anyone else the mild double entendres will likely make no sense anyway. Technically, "The Olga Sagas" as I've come to call them could rate being in a separate directory all by themselves and although inferior to the Olga stories in every way we might include the stories I wrote about Ilsa there too.

There is a lot of OT stuff here boys. Good stuff I'd hate to lose. For instance SNAFU's well written story about his other sim and those about IL2 written by others. I've written some stories that do not deal with BoB myself. OT stories of any kind can be included IMHO simply because they were posted here. Poems and other quotes can be included if the HWH poster is named and source properly attributed. We might place all the OT stuff in a separate folder if desired.

1) Where there is no title I make up a suitable one myself.

2) Where there is a series of chapters I add "Chapter 1-2-3 etc. to the title which becomes the file name.

3) I save the story as "Von Krashenburn's Revenge Chapt. 2" in the directory (folder) named for the author.

4) Because I also type into MS Word document above the story the following info we do not have to worry too much regarding chronological mix ups:

Story Title/ Chapter #
HWH Cont., Page #, Date posted IE 5/16/02
By: Author's name

5) As for typos, I think it is OK to use your spell checker. I would not however 'edit' a word of the text without permission from the author.

6) If the poster is NOT the actual author of the work I put "Posted by: Name" and then give full credit to the actual author at the bottom of the story IE "From: The Taming of the Smoo by Alfred E. Neumann"

C51:

Please, I am not the leader. And as my wife may attest I am certainly not fearless. SNAFU is and always has been our "Fearless Founder" repleat with mask, cape and tights. \:D

I could not open the file you sent. What format was it in? Once everything is complete everyone will just exchange what they have. I'll send what I have to C51 and SNAFU and C51 and SNAFU send all you have collected to me. That way we will all have a complete collection of HWH Cont. stories to work with. In other words I will receive a zipped file from each of you and you will both get one from me.

Here is the format:

Directory name: HWHCont_Page_1-13
Subdirectories:
Bader
(stories)
DonnyBrooke
(stories)
SNAFU
(stories)
Madaboutsims
(stories)
OldDux
(stories)
OSRAM
(stories)
Rickenbacher
(stories)
Stickman
(stories)
Timdog
(stories)
Zerosan2
(stories)

Be sure to zip the files so the folder format is retained. It won't look like it in the pane but when unzipped properly the folders and names will be there. Here is how to do it if you don't already know. How do I compress a folder and later restore it?

Note: there are easier ways to do this, but this is the easiest to explain. In particular, using the drag and drop interface or the WinZip menu entry in the File Manager can save you most of these steps.

How to compress a folder and its subfolders:

1. Start WinZip

2. Select New Archive from the File menu

3. Type the name of the archive, for example:
C:\MYDIR.ZIP and press the Enter key

4. Select Add from the Actions menu

5. Type the full filespec of the files you want to add, for example:
C:\MYDIR\*.*

6. Be sure the Include subfolders box is checked and the Save extra folders
info box is not checked

7. Press the Add with wildcards button. (In Windows “wildcards” are the
asterisk and question mark characters. These let you specify multiple files
at once, for example, “* Txt” refers to all files with a file type of “Txt”.)

How to restore a folder and its subfolders:

1. Start WinZip and open the Zip created in step 1 above

2. Select Extract from the Actions menu

3. Be sure the Use folder names checkbox is checked

4. Type the destination folder, for example
C:\MYDIR

5. Press the Extract button

Here's an idea or three.

How about a photo of the authors and a little bio of each to be included? Also I think our Fearless Founder should write some sort of introduction explaining what in the world he had in mind at the beginning, why he started HWH in the first place (the source code flame wars were blazing on the forum) and finally what in his opinion it has grown to be and will go on to become.

Each author might include a short snippet on what this thread means to us and why we take the time to visit and post here?

Just some rambling thoughts.

Welcome back Old Dux,
sorry to hear about your bad spell,
hope you are feeling your old self again.

can't wait to read your Olga story - strange what happens to the mind when you are in bed a long time....

In case anyone is interested, I've gleaned pages 40 and 41 of HWH and will try and do a couple more tonight

Regarding Olga-esque, i would be in favour of including them, but in a separate section. Perhaps with a disclaimer \:\) or with pseudonym authors ;\)
(yes JRT, the readers of these posts are for the most part mature, even if the authors are clearly not \:D )
but i will bow to consensus.

JRT,
i agree about the typos and editing, in fact this is already what i have done - just wanted to check. i re-sent the files (they were in word format???) hope these ones work.

Folks,

C51:

Thanks. I have them all. Wow! There were more than I expected. Looks like I go for quantity over quality every time when it comes to writing. ;\)

More pages done? I don't care what Sharon whispers about you when her hair is being done, you sir are a man of great stamina. The ailing Old Dux and I both owe you one. Maybe even two?

Dux I look forward to the next installing enthrallment of the Olga Sagas with great anticipation. It is most interesting that when you were laid up, as it were, in bed that your innermost thoughts turned to Olga. There is definitely something Freudian in that. Don't you agree C51?

All,

Firstly, Great to see Old Dux off the sick roll and back in the barracks fit for duty.

Dux, we have had a few rough tangles with Jerry and could have really used your help. We'll get em today though. ;\)

Sir JR2, I havent gotten to looking at any of Dux's assigned pages yet. Should I still do so?

Also, Maybe I missed it but I didnt note the page number of each story I found in my assigned pages. Should I go back and get the pages? I have title, date and author.

Life has gotten rather hectic around here lately so I am trying to fit this work in where I can. Forgive me if I'm a bit slow. I should be able to forward my work by friday evening.

Oh and by the way for what it's worth I think Olga stories belong. They are indeed part of HWH and a damned fine part to boot.

TALLY HO!

Folks,

SNAFU:

Friday sounds good. Looks like the wonderfully industrious C51 has jumped right in and taken all Dux's pages so just go back and get those page numbers if you can. Sorry I posted that request for page numbers a bit later. I think that info. will be useful in the future when I create a database.

Yes, it looks as if everyone agrees that Dux's creation must be included. Great!

I have all my stories I collected myself and those collected by C51. He is sending me my stories from Dux's pages shortly. Please send me the stories written by me that you collect asap. I will then add to those we do not have all the rest of my stories back to the beginning of HWH from my archives. Thanks. \:\)

C51:

Well done! Everything looks great too. Title, page numbers, etc. are all there. Thanks and thanks too for finishing up Dux's pages as well. We will have to find some appropriate way to show our appreciation....eh, Dux? A night with Olga for C51 or perhaps a trip around the world for two entirely at his own expense? We must come up with something. ;\)

Will someone kindly refresh my faltering memory as to the precie UBB code or whatever I must enter in order to embed the link and have the following page open automatically when you click on this post?

Happy Halloween!
