Folks,

SNAFU:

Thanks. I have sent you an e-mail.

You are correct about the respect shown others on this thread and on this forum. Manners are always appreciated yet so few seem to have them these days.

Mother said the best way to get someone to stop frowning is to give them your smile. Perhaps the best thing to do when we meet those with no manners is to show them ours?

Folks,

OT, SNAFU:

Congratulations to you and to the Maryland Terps on your big win today. It looks like this could be your year! Way to go Maryland! Wow! Living most of my life in NC, it sure seems funny typing that. None the less it is sincere.

All,

Thanks JR2, very nice of you to extend congrat's to our Terps. Yes, I imagine it is quite difficult to utter such words coming from where you do. For many there is breathing, eating and then there is NC college basketball.

Our success has so ofter hinged on what Duke or NC was doing that it seems a bit strange not to have to go thru one of them to advance.

The Terp vs Uconngame was a good one for sure. 45 lead changes.

Onward to Atlanta

Folks,

SNAFU:

The Terps deserve full credit.

Never a true 'Carolina' fan myself (always Duke/State) I must however ask myself "Where is Dean Smith when you really need him?"

Yes "Carolina" basketball is a big deal all around the country. Everyone loves a winner and our teams have claimed more than their share of winning seasons and championships. Everywhere I've traveled it seems the subject of NC college basketball eventually comes up.

I rode up in an elevator once with Indiana's most winning coach Bobby Knight (before his recent disgrace) and even he wanted to talk about Carolina basketball. I spent a few moments with the talented Shaq once and he talked about Carolina basketball. How about Michael?

Alas, even though he is from NC and his home is not so far from here I have never met Michael Jordan face to face. I spoke to him over the phone once years ago ( on business). One would expect him to speak with authority about NC basketball and he did.

Gents,

Apologies for absence. Modding related problems are delaying my 'contributions'.

I'm about 70% through Olga. Not physically of course...Good God!....no, I would'nt wish that on anybody.

Folks,

Old Dux:

Great news. Soon we shall meet Olga who sounds a lot like a lady (using the term somewhat generously) beside whom a buddy of mine once woke up. Having gotten completely blotto the night before he claims that he was not even aware that he had a sleeping companion.

He awoke with the pitiless indiscretions of the night before maliciously toiling away form the inside using jackhammers against his throbbing skull. Finding the new morning still a whiskey colored blur, he rubbed his red, swollen eyes and got his first real good look at his female companion. According to him it was a face that would curdle milk.

As he cringed in horror at the thoughts of what he might have done overnight, she smiled at him hopefully with a mouth he could best describe as looking far too much like a barn door smeared with cheap red paint and filled with only the black piano keys. Cooing softly, the young woman snuggled much closer making several extremely friendly overtures. From that point on my friend claims that her body was willing but his spirit was much too weak.

OT:
I have read you say that you were once an avid bird watcher. We have several feeders and a rather larger flock of indigenous species living in the woods and forest around us. They, our squirrels and other woods critters are a treat to watch. There is a family of racoons sniffing around in the backyard right now.

This year we have really enjoyed several richly colored male Cardinals and their more muted colored companions. The Cardinal is the state bird of NC, by the way and they are quite common here. One bird in particular stood out. He was quite large with especially brilliant colored feathers even for a male cardinal.

Never opposed to anthropomorphism in any form (particularly when applied to our nearest human neighbors) we named this handsome fellow and followed his comings and goings with great interest.

When the snow came he fought off the Blue Jays single handed (footed) and he had uncontested pick of the females this spring. Our feathered Romeo was a sight to see all puffed up, scarlet and strutting about the backyard. He knew it too.

We named him SNAFU after the HWH founder (no, not because Mark is a bird brain) because we like SNAFU. And the acronym fit so well: Situation Normal All Fluffed Up.

This morning I found poor SNAFU (the bird, not the man) lying stone dead in the yard, his body ravaged by some scavenger or predator. It is sad that such a beautiful life is so easily taken. Nature is impartial yet it often seems so cruel.

Hurry with "Olga" I need cheering up.

All,

My goodness JR2, My namesake was wacked before I even got a chance to know much about him. Shame.

I'm sure glad you clarified your reasoning for naming him SNAFU. It appears the name was ultimatlely fitting for your illfated friend as for him the situation was indeed all.... well you know.

I am looking foward to some great stories from all as we head toward 1000 posts. I know I have gotten more stick time this week in BoB than in the past 2 months thanks to the BDG and the death of stutter on my rig. I will certainly have one or two tales coming up soon.

Hi all,
Just thought I'd pop in and say hello...well the door was open so you know. Haven't been in for a while.
I have checked myself all over and I can confirm that I am, in fact, still alive. Like Mark Twain.
I suppose I'd better get a story or 2 done, and help youse get to the 1000 mark.
I had to smile at your post JRT. I am in fact still an avid bird watcher. Of course, being young, devastatingly handsome and charming does help one somewhat with the ladies. Still, it was a gift from God to be made this Handsome so I figure that I have to use it really. Would be a crime not to, old chap. But thats us Brits for you.
By the way, why are we always villians in all your Hollywood movies? Why are Alan Rickman, Gary Oldman and John Hurt et al always absolute bounders? Do you not have any other nations you can pick on? Like say the French. Why can't you have some French villians in your movies? Like Gerard Depardieu? The French believe that your movies are real you know. They think we all actually are villians now. Even when the villians in your movies are German, like in Die Hard, they are British. It simply isn't fair you chaps.
Why, next you'll be telling us that it was one of your bally submarines that captured a German Enigma decrypt machine from a German U Boat and not one of our jolly jack tar destroyers of the Royal Navy.

All,

Zerosan2, Very glad you stopped in. I recently reread some stories when I was busy tallying all the writers for the marking of the 1000th post. One was yours. Excellent indeed. I have seen you in various areas of the forum. Good you decided to stop back for a visit. Do contribute a story here soon.

Oh... why you ask do they in Hollywood pick on the British.

I suppose it is because you have proven over and over again that you can take it

Folks,

Zerosan2:

You ask if our filmmakers are prejudiced against John Hurt and all Brit actors? Umm, I don't think so. If it were true, do you think it could possibly be because the jolly Brits are the only nation ever to burn down the Whitehouse?

If you think this is an enigma, I have one for you. British TV screens must be absolutely enormous in size. Otherwise, what else can possibly explain how your filmmakers could expect us willing Yanks to fit all of Dawn French onto our tiny 26" TV screens?

Welcome back. The latch is always out for you. Please do honor us with a story to help us all (you included) celebrate 1000 flame-free posts. Happy Easter.
