Folks:

Well, no mug shots have grudgingly popped themselves into my mailbox so I guess I'll scrap the photo idea and go to work on the tribute page without it.

I for one, and I only speak for myself, plan to also post a story here in tribute to Sir SNAFU and all our brilliant members who have placed upon this thread 1000 flame free posts.

As some may remember (the lucky one's will not) I have already posted a little story around Christmas time appropriately entitled "A Celebration with Friends". Now I wish I'd saved that title, for it would be perfect at this time. Who knew for sure there would be 1000 posts?

Oh well, there is plenty for me to do so I'll shut up and get to work on the tribute page and my story. One more thing.

I invite all who regularly read and perhaps even enjoy our stories to post your feelings and suggestions at this time of celebration. In my opinion it is a grand time for us all to thank Sir SNAFU for having the inspiration to start this flame-fee thread.

Those who post stories or have posted here in the past are cordially invited to join me in celebrating in prose what I feel is unique on this forum and perhaps on any other forum anywhere. 1000 flame-free posts on one thread.

Way to go Sir SNAFU, and everyone!

Yes, that was a good story . I particularly liked the allegorical 'shooting star' over a barn (stable), very fitting! Though i think my favourite was the reference to 'tears in the rain'. I think it was a three parter and skipped through time and generations...( and was there a statue with a rain drop in the corner of it's eye? i can't remeber it's title...i think that is my favourite ).

Folks,

Arch:

Thanks for remembering. I am pleased that you liked those. They are certainly among my personal favorites. The title was "Just One Drop". Yes, there was a "tear" in the eye of the statue at the end. As you seem to indicate, the "tears in the rain" bit is an oblique reference to Roy's death speech in the movie "Blade Runner".

Folks:

I figure there are 39 more posts to go before 1000. For what it's worth, SNAFU, I have finished the HWH tribute page and it is ready to be posted and/or e-mailed. It is a tad large 550x900x24.

I am about to start on the new "celebration" story, probably I'll do so this weekend. Perhaps saying so won't frighten too many off. I do my best, I really do. One day I may get the hang of this writing business. We can only hope.

All,

Good to hear from you Arch.

JR2, You not only talented but also kind like only a true Southerner can be. Thank you very much. This site is much richer for your presence. I was looking for a fitting photo and did come across one of me at the wings of Freedom airshow next to Long Tall and Sassy, the most beautiful P51D you ever saw. Two tone, blue and bare silver. I can scan it and forward to you if you like.

If it is not tooo big (56k you know) send me your celebration page, Id love a preview. Or just go forward with posting it at the appropriate moment (Whatever that is ). You have proven your graphic talents and I am sure everyone will love it. I too am working up a glorious BoB tale.

TALLY HO!

Folks,

SNAFU:

Cancel the bonfires in Durham tonight, Momma. Mighty Duke has fallen to Indiana, losing by 1 point. Congratulations to Indiana, who simply would not lose. Congratulations also to the fallen but valiant defending champions, Duke for a great season and a well fought game.

Go Maryland! I hope you thoroughly trounce Kentucky.

Such compliments. Were you really referring to me? You are so kind to say so SNAFU. Please do send the photo. You'll probably be an ugly sight (I am) yet I really do want to see that P-51.

You want a preview? Ok, I'll send over the page in a moment. If I do get some other pictures I will add another page. Besides I would kind of like to list the names of all those who have posted stories from day one. A kind of pilot roster.

Of course we only have a pseudonym for most folks but that's ok. I travel tomorrow, so I will be out of the office. If you could graze through the whole lot and send me an alphabetized list of non-duplicated posters in MS Word .DOC format, I would consider doing the extra page anyway. E-mail me if you feel you'll have the time this weekend. I know you'll be glued to the TV tomorrow night.

If I get any additional photos of the gang like from Old Dux or Bader I will use any I receive. Otherwise I will use yours and perhaps mine in the cheesy pirate getup and make up the rest from "other" sources.

Folks,

Old Dux:

Ok, thanks for catching my mistake, that was indeed a typo. I meant to say "One day this writing business may get me hanged."

Will you also be honoring us with a suitable photo and a story for the 1000th post celebration?

Rather belatedly, many thanks for the "Hurricanes from Kenley" pic JRT. It's an absolute beauty.

So many artists get the proportions of the Hurricane wrong. This is just perfect. This is my laptop's wallpaper now.

And here is how Kenley looks today.

Folks,

Sir Bader:

Not at all. I received your e-mail saying that you liked the work and were admiring it upon the screen of your laptop. In my tattered old book, that is high praise for the artist and the painting.

I am truly pleased. The enjoyment of beautiful, near perfect things may only be enhansed by sharing them with others. It is hard to find a better representation of the Hurricane going to work anywhere, I think.

Do e-mail me a personal pic if you have a scan of one and plan to also honor SNAFU and all others who post on HWH with a story.

Thanks for the photo of Kenly today. Quite a difference from the bustling airdrome of 1940.

All,

JR2, I will do my best to gather all the names of all the pilots who have posted a tale on HWH. I should be able to do it the the end of the weekend. Hope you got the pic.

Sir Bader, that photo looks very familiar to me. The general look of the terrain and buidlings looks a lot like a game we share an affection for

Hope everyone will join JR2 and me in celebrating 1000 posts here. It is quite amazing when you consider their are many game forums here that have less total posts. And you will be hard pressed to find one where the participants receive as much respect from one another as is regularily handed out here by all who stop in.

TALLY HO!
