The family and I (and a friend of my daughter in tow) headed off to Devon for a 4 day weekend (we just got back!).

Got a ton of beach pics but the highlight (for me anyway) was being at Putsburough beach as the sun was setting.

Not sure how these images will pan out as my monitor seems dodgy as hell with how bright it is so wont truely be able to sort them out until I get to work in the morning.

Anyway, without further ado, I give you "two children frollicking in the sand as the sun sets over Putsburough beach" \:\)

Both are nice shots; however, you may want to fix the horizon especially on number one \:\)

some nice shots there m8, like rock says need to correct the hoz on #1, can't be taking a pic of a sunset and having a dodgy horizon now ;\)

crit: prehaps getting down lower would have helped seperate the kids from the sea..

Ill sort out tonight.

Re the getting lower thing...thats quite a good idea! \:\)

the shots really give the warmth feel.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the horizon was off on the first one. ;\)

I found that in PS turning on the grid function (view-grid) is a quick and dirty way to confirm horizon alignment and as long as it is within a couple degrees of horizontal the Transform/Skew function can sort it when used with care.

To be fair...I found that getting straight horizons out of the camera really does require a tripod with spirit level. I also try and use the horizontal L/R AF focus indicator squares in the viewfinder as a quick check. This...of course..generally goes out the window when doing any sort of panning work. With more and more places denying the use of a tripod for various silly and obscure reasons I am going to get a more specialized viewfinder screen when I next upgrade my camera body.

You don't need care if you use the ruler (right click the eyedropper tool, it's hidden by default) to select two points on a line that should be horizontal (or vertical for that matter).
Once you've drawn a line, it dials the corrected angle right into the Image->Rotate Canvas->Arbitrary dialogue \:\)

Nice shots mailman, love the colours, and that cloud on the horizon!

Right then, I had a play and fixed the horizon (I think).

The family and I are off to Turkey in a couple weeks so Ill get plenty of chances to try getting lower so the kids stand out more against the horizon instead of the water \:\)

And one more, not sure if it works though?

I also think it has something to do with my right hand bias (as most of my pics sorta roll downhill in the same direction).

Its something Im sometimes aware off and try to "offset" myself to get a more even horizon.
