When I turn on the kneeboard,,, when using the 2D cockpit,,, the screen turns black from the top of the kneeboard on both sides and all the way to the bottom of the sreen.

When I right click on the black part,, and then click 'close window",, the black screen is gone but so is the 2D cockpit.

Is there any way to use the kneeboard and the 2D cockpit without the black screen covering the 2d cockpit??

Thanks.

I use the F-10 key and never had any problem. Probably AA and/or video drivers issue.

The kneeboard has always worked for me. Are you sure you have the check and ref files in the aircraft you are using ?

Like Chappy says, it looks like a video driver issue. Post a picture that always helps. What video card and driver set ?

I have the same problem with F-10 key.

If I click maximize window , the 2d panel turns off and the black boarder around the sides and bottom of the kneeboard also turn off. then I click on maximize window again and the 2d panel is back and the black boarder around the kneeboard is gone.

Once I turn the kneeboard off and on again the black boarder is back.

I'm running the 6800gt with 77.30 drivers, desktop and fs9 are both in 1024x768.

I'll try to post a screenshot.

One more thing,, When I installed the new 6800gt ( from a plain 6800) the aircraft preview screen is blank???

Maybe I should just do a re-install of fs9??

If you haven't tried it yet, see if all of the effects especially the blank aircraft pre-view screen happen in both full screen and windowed FS9.

What I think will happen is that things are okay in the windowed mode but not full screen. In this case try setting your anti-aliasing setting down one notch just to see if the problem goes away in full screen.

In any event I'm pretty sure your going to find it's a video driver/video card setting at the heart of the matter.

If you want to test out the driver issue line of thought, I would suggest getting the 71.89 set of drivers for that particular card. Look for a set called "71.89_win2kxp_english.exe" at guru3d.
Not that I'm recommending using this set over your new ones in the long run, but at least you would have a piece to the puzzle figured out.

An important step before going this route would be to make sure you have your newer drivers completely uninstalled before installing the older drivers.

Thanks FAC257, I turned anti-aliasing down from 8x to 4x and the problems with the kneeboard and the preview screen are gone.

It turned the res in the sim to 1280x1024. It still looks good even with the lower AA setting .

Maybe I'll try a newer driver than the 77.30 and see if I still have the problem with the higher AA settings.

Glad that got you a little closer.

As far as changing drivers I think this is one of those times where newer might not be better. This problem seemed to crop up with the newer nVidia drivers. That's why I suggested the older 71.89s. The 71.89s are a great set to fall back on when in doubt about video issues.

BTW The problem occurs with the new 81.89s also.

If you have any luck with one of the newer sets beyond 71.89 post a note.

I will post if I have better results with newer drivers,, but,,, I will probably just leave the 77.30 in for now.

I've screwed up my computer more than once while tweaking small problems.lol

The difference (that I can see) between 4x and 8x AA is very small.

Thanks again for your help.
