Sorry for the double post, but I just had to provide an update.

54 Squadron B Flight
RAF Hornchurch

22.07.1940 1300hrs

Standard patrol to cover shipping channels. Uneventful, other than the Flight Leader bringing us well over the channel into France. A few bursts of flak struck amongst B flight but, luckily, caused no damage.
We made it back to blighty without spotting any enemy aircraft. The Luftwaffe probably thought it wise not to put up in such bad weather!

Upon returning to Hornchurch we all entered the landing circuit, at which point I felt an uncontrollable urge to abandon ship and leave my cockpit for a spot of fresh air. I jumped out of my Hurricane for reasons unknown (I accidentally pressed the 'O' key), the silk canopy unravelling and suspending me in the damp stormy weather.

The Squadron Commander isn't too pleased.
