All the women (and men with questionable masculinity identities) rushed to the theater to see Russel shirtless.

I still think Gladiator should never had earned a Best Picture nomination.

Why did it win Best Picture of the year?

Same reason I just gave it above: all the women (and men with questionable masculinity identities - there are lot of them on the Academy voting - after all, it wouldn't be Hollywood and Los Angeles without them) on the Academy (and there are 6,000 members, they are they ones who vote on who and what is nominated and who and what wins) that voted for it.
