Hard to believe that Jurassic Park was 21 years ago. Sheesh.
An interesting fact:

Suddenly, anything a director could dream up could be put on the screen – tornadoes, snarling monsters and, as we’ve seen nearly ever summer since, wide-scale devastation. But just 21 years ago, the idea of accomplishing such feats was science fiction itself."
"That's definitely a huge part of it. Though there is an argument that Jaws is just that much better of a movie because the shark was kept in the shadows. I mean, that scene where the young woman gets attacked is one of the best death scenes, and it required almost no special effects whatsoever."
I really am sick of the overuse of special effects (along with ever-increasing commercial time).
