I know it's currently possible to equip some planes with flares and then the player can fire them, although probably with no actual purpose in the current game.
So maybe it could be possible to have AI flights regularly use flares to issue commands like rejoin, assist or rtb. I think it would be very cool and add to the immersion and situational awareness of the player, besides being historically correct.
