Yeah, as luck would have it that little idea worked out perfectly.

A piece of 3/4" PVC, two 45* elbows, and a 1/2 piece of plywood worked like a champ. Slapped some Krylon Fusion paint on there(bonds incredibly well to PVC) to kind of mesh it in to the rest of the setup...and done. Really nice because it slides in and out, so when I race, I can just replace it with the steering wheel mount.
