I use it when flying longer distances, like in the campaign missions. Quite more comfortable when you can keep the Huey on course with only minimal control inputs.

The HOTAS boat switch is what your're looking for. You'll find it under HOTAS contols. IIRC it's right alt+cursor left/right/down to switch between the various vision modes when TPG is SOI.
