Menus and UI

The GTL Workshop team has done a wonderful job with the menus and the UI, including some spot-on cover versions of music befitting the period of the subject matter to accompany the menus (yes the mod even includes newly recorded covers of sixties and seventies music, all you need to bring is the pink shirt with the huge collar and the Beatles boots); all serving to put you in the right kind of mood for taking on these historic race cars on the tracks of your choosing.

If you have the MoTec data acquisition tool installed and wish to use it with this mod, a shortcut has been provided within the menus.

Generally the menus should look and feel familiar to users of GTR2 although the mod team has cleaned up the interface and menus, and made them more intuitive to navigate than the stock menus from the host software.

Sounds

And here I’m primarily discussing the car sounds which have been reworked and to make it very short; I wish my sound system went to “11” — alas “10” is the maximum setting.

Within the existing limitations of the sound engine utilized in GTR2, the Workshop has performed small wonders with the car sounds; as I brake and shift down the gears nearing the end of the Mulsanne straight at Le Mans in my Ferrari 250 I cannot, simply cannot resist blipping the throttle to hear that lovely combination of engine braking, interspersed with the chorus from 12 cylinders of Maranello’s finest cavallieri, caused by my matching the revs when tapping the throttle.

You don’t have to do this to drive the mod if you’d rather not attempt classic heel-and toe techniques, but see if you can resist!

The same goes for the deep and authoritative bass rumble — just-below-earthquake-level — of the U.S. cars, like the Ford GT40, made famous and unforgettable from their victories at Le Mans.
