Feature: Driving rFactor
A Fast Lap at Essington Park

Turn 8R: In the image previous we're on the apex of T7L and looking ahead at T8R. Again, it is important to aim for a slightly early turn-in as the front end push will compensate your line. You must be careful to detect any tendencies for the rear of the car to break away once you have arrived at the apex of T8R, as the car is quite ready to spin out here. The quick and fast change-of-direction places the loads of the car first on the right hand side of the suspension, then the left hand side, and finally back on the right hand side. Usually stiffening the anti-roll bars would help minimize this rolling, but stiffer roll bars would make the car more twitchy as well.

I shift down to 4th gear somewhere in the middle between turns 7 and 8 to drive the rest of the esses in 4th gear. Taking the rest of the esses in 5th gear is possible but means that you will have to be very very careful that the car doesn't push excessively over the front.

Aim for the curbing in Turn 8 but be careful not to ride the curbs so hard that it will unsettle your car, which is on the very outer edge of available grip.

Turn 8 Apex slighlty missed

Turn 9L: T9L is a long, sweeping left-hander and it is very difficult to hit the apex here. Nevertheless, you should attempt to do better than I did during my "hotlap".

This turn is the last of the esses and by now you are probably sweating, shaking and exhilarated if you made it this far without too many driving errors.

Nothing to it really, it's just like walking a tightrope!

Turn 10R: The lap is almost complete, but still we have a few more turns to go. Braking for T10 you shift down from 5th to 3rd, place the car as far to the left as you can and turn-in slightly early, clipping the curb with your right hand side wheels. I find that this line makes the car feel more stable, faster, and I'm positioned nicely for the next turn.
