The 917 through Indianapolis
Corner
Hurtling down towards the Indianapolis
corner, going from flat out in top gear, lifting a bit before
going into the right hand fast kink and preparing to brake
massively for the banked left hand Indianapolis. You have
to take great care not to run too wide in the Porsche curves
and the Ford chicane. Add to that the torrential rain and
poor visibility that was bestowed upon us on race day. The
workload is heavy and not making a mistake for all of 24 hours
seems almost an impossibility.

Rainy Raceday
Delaney had still not made a showing
so I raced from last on the grid in the atrocious conditions.
Cars were side-by-side on the straights as I made up ground
very quickly. I cautioned myself to only pass when it was
safe, even if it meant waiting for the traffic jam ahead to
clear. A few caution flags were thrown during the early phase
as drivers were trying just a bit too hard in the wet conditions
and predictably crashed out of the race as a consequence.

Porsches Under Braking
Quickly I moved up the order and ran
mid-field. Catching the front runners was not going to be
as easy as it had been to pass the backmarker GT cars.
On the last lap and while lying in
second place, I went wide in the aforementioned Porsche curves
and slammed into the Armco. Somehow my car was still holding
together and I managed to nurse it home in second position.
Next Race is the Nordschleiffe!
