BMW

Another car that is great fun to drive is the BMW Z3. Like the Elise it is quite slow but handles really well. First lap out of the pits and I'm already broadsliding it through the corners with a fair amount of throttle exiting the corners!

Ferrari 360

Ferrari 360

The Ferrari 360 is known and loved by many for it's shape and it's sound. The 360 is not as easy to drive as I thought though.

A few more words about the sounds. All the cars in GTR sound great. If you've tried the demo you know what to expect. My personal impression is that the Lister sound in the demo — and in the preview version as well — has just a bit too much transmission whine and it's starting to get on my nerves. I find the sounds of the other cars more balanced and less strenuous to listen to over the duration.

But who am I to argue such things... SimBin recorded the sounds made by the real cars, from the inside, from the outside, from above, below and under acceleration, deceleration and during gearshifts, so you'll hear the banging clanking sounds, and also see the flames coming out of the exhaust when the engines backfire when you lift off the throttle.

Ferrari 550 / 575

Ferrari 550 / 575

With the Ferraris 550 / 575 we move up to the faster cars. For the Ferraris, as well as for the other cars, the handling is less understeery in comparison with the official demo. Also in comparison to the press demo. At least that's my impression.

Careful with the throttle at high revs! This is a must if you don't want to spin out!

Gorgeous sounds come from this beast, and it has another thing in common with the other cars as well, apart from the better handling...

These cars are not that difficult to drive at slow speeds if you take care with your braking and acceleration. But... imo they are very, very difficult to drive well and fast — catching the right lines around the track, driving on the ragged edge and keep it just on the limit without exceeding it. I suppose I could add that ABS and traction control, but why would I?

After all, there is a reason why only the best of the best racing drivers are offered contracts with real teams, and why a lot of real racing drivers are fighting for a chance with a top team.

And there is a reason why we of no wealth and/or no real talent drive the PC instead of the real thing.
