I bought my first computer from money saved while delivering newspapers around my old neighborhood. It was an Atari 800XL with tape drive on my old black and white television.
Like many of us, I’ve always wanted to be a fighter pilot. My first game naturally was Fighter Pilot by Digital Integration followed later by Microprose F-15 Strike Eagle. I was in simmers heaven — or so I thought at the time. How could it get any better? Then I got my first two PC flight simulators — Jane's Longbow and Jane's WW2 Fighters and I was really hooked! Occasionally I return to play WW2 Fighters for nostalgia's sake. Of course the immersion and graphics of today's games are awesome compared to "back then". Although I’ll never be a jet jockey, I always enjoy firing up Wings Over Vietnam and Wings Over Europe to at least pretend I can do what I’ve always wished to do in my career.
My brother introduced me to Novalogic’s Land Warrior and now I’m also hooked on first person shooters. After serving in the Army for 10 years it was as close to combat as I’ll ever get. Armed Assault is my new passion. I really enjoy playing with fellow SimHQers on the game server. If you haven't tried it, you should come and join us!
I’ve been a Forums Moderator for SimHQ for a long time (and plan to continue with that responsibility) and have written a couple of articles for the site. I'm really looking forward to SimHQ becoming a premier downloads site again. Watch for our results. We think you'll be pleased.
